WE TOUCHED DOWN IN BANGKOK on the 27th of December. I completely forgot how much I love flying long haul! 10 or so hours went by in a flash and before I knew it we were walking through arrivals in search of our artist liaison. The energy of this place was already electric and we hadn’t even exited the airport yet! We found Cream and instantly fell in love with her. We needed coffee, that was for sure. Behaving like a typical Brit we looked around for a chain until Cream insisted we tried the local coffee. A little bit reluctant we agreed. It was DELICIOUS – ‘Cha Tra Mue’ is the name of the brand. The iced cappuccino is what we had… you have to get one!
We stayed at the ORIENTAL RESIDENCE HOTEL BANGKOK; (www.orientalresidence.com) – It was beautiful. The staff were so attentive and made us feel so special from the moment we arrived, gifting us with flowers, welcome drinks, giving us a tour of the hotel and advising on where to go, where not to go. I knew instantly we we’re going to like it
here!
PERFORMANCE DAY – it was easy to forget we were here to work! We were having such a great time. We headed to the venue to sound check and I was introduced to my band for the next 2 days; they were brilliant. Before I knew it; it was time to perform. It felt good to be back on stage doing what I love most; singing. The crowd were so engaging and full of energy. I had dancers to go along with the band which always adds to the show. 40 minutes later it was done. Gig 1 complete!
DAY OFF: SIGHT SEEING
We made sure we were up and out early as wanted to make the most of our free time. We wanted to see as much of Bangkok as we could. 1st stop GRAND PALACE. This was about a 40 minute drive from our hotel which was great as it allowed us to soak up the atmosphere of the city. All the colours, Tuk-Tuks and pink taxis zooming by, families of 4 all on one moped, street food stalls, local people going about their day – I find it so interesting to be able to look into how people live their lives on the other side of the world. This city was amazing.
We arrived at the Grand Palace. I was so taken back by just how beautiful it was. All of the golds, reds, greens, the detail, the architecture, it was like nothing I have ever seen before. We walked around for about 2 hours taking in our surroundings. It felt amazing to have the sun on our skin; it was so hot! We had another temple we wanted to visit…
Along the way we saw lots of people selling things. We laughed and joked with them all and of course bought a few bits…
We caught a ‘Tuk Tuk’… drank coconut water from a real life coconut… it was the BEST! … Caught a boat across the river…
And after a day of sightseeing headed for an amazing dinner in restaurant that over looked the Chao Phraya river called The Supanniga Eating Room. We had local food; Pad Thai and Green Curry. Absolutely delicious – not to mention the view!
PERFORMANCE DAY 2: After spending a couple of hours in the gym we headed back to the venue for sound check.
We checked out the local shopping centre – Central World; it has every shop you can imagine! Then headed back for a few hours of down time at the hotel pool. We drank coffee, caught up with some work and prepared for that night’s performance. The views were amazing…
Performance ready…
Performance complete…
… time to head to the islands for holiday! Thank you Bangkok you were brilliant xx
